After two years of remote working, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was looking to welcome employees back to their headquarter in Gatwick. A light refurbishment had taken place to give a fresher feel to the office space but more was required to make it as appealing as possible.

What did we find that was extraordinary? Using impactfully designed way-finder signage, we can give a brighter and more consistent feel to the headquarters.

How we extracted the extraordinary

In order to encourage a more flexible hybrid model of working, the client’s project team remodelled this office into three main workspace areas on each floor: Shared Desk Spaces for teams to hot-desk together; Collaboration Zones for colleagues and multi-department teams to come together and collaborate; and Quiet Zones for more focussed, quieter work.

Our graphics and signage focused primarily on sign-posting these new areas as well as the newly renamed meeting rooms, to ensure all colleagues could find their way around the updated floor plan of the building. Using consistent design principles, based on the concept that we had already implemented in their London office, we also highlighted all key facilities (kitchen, waterpoints, toilets), and created more engaging graphics in the Collaboration Zones and Town hall area to foster teamwork.
